Question: Have you ever lost a lot of money or made a big purchase you later regretted?

Answer: I haven’t lost a lost a lot of money, but I have lost a little bit of money in my younger days, mostly at the casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. But I don’t gamble anymore, so no more losses at the casinos. However, I have made purchases that I’ve regretted – and it most recently, it’s associated with golf clubs. I have EIGHT sets of golf clubs in our basement right now; two sets are beginner sets that I purchased when Rebecca and I first started golf, so that’s somewhat acceptable because they weren’t that expensive. But for some stupid reason, I decided to stop using the clubs that were fitted for me (PING G400 irons) and try super-game improvement irons that had big backsides (Cleveland Launcher and Launcher HB Turbo irons, Wilson Launch Pad steel and graphite irons), with the goal of improving my game and getting my handicap down. Spent a year using all four sets – and ended up going back to my Ping G400 irons. Most recently, I shot 39, 40, and 42 for 9 holes; most two most recent 18 hole scores are 87 and (more recently) 82. Needless to say, even being them used totals over $2,000 – and if I trade them back, I might get $1,000. Yes, that’s definitely a regret; I think this year, I may have bought a driver, a hybrid and two different wedges – all used – and noticed that my bank account is building up again. And my golf game is getting better! Duh! As a side note: the “big” purchase that was made this year was a driver (PING G410 Plus); this club is the main reason my handicap is going down! Hitting more tee shots into the fairway over 250 yards truly makes a difference! Although I still have one or two bad holes every time out, I am scoring so much better! Yeah!
