the year of you, day 238

Thursday, August 26, 2021 (Day 238)

NEW Relaxing Music for the week: Illumination of the Heart: Deuter (9:41) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9NNnO93F0E

Question: If you had a choice between receiving $200 now or $2,000 in six months’ time, which would you choose? Why?

Answer: I would pick the $2,000 in six months. Although I know it’s always better to take money today and invest, I can tell you that I would take the money and either put in our emergency fund account or put in my emergency cash account. For me, this scenario is like the marshmallow study – would you rather have a marshmallow right now or wait and have two marshmallows in an hour. I could easily wait for the two marshmallows in an hour, since one of the things I’ve really tried to build within myself is patience and discipline. Besides, if I had the $200 right now, what would I get? I would most likely spend it on a nice dinner for Rebecca and I; with the $2,000, that’s a nice trip, maybe to the beach or something. Sounds like a better option to me, don’t you think?

Other Stuff

I’ll be presenting a workshop today at Fort Lewis College today; the title of the session is: “Purpose + Meaning + Mission + Vision = The Formula for Student (and Life) Success.” It should be a lot of fun! My brain is full of ideas right now. I’m thinking of an article titled, “Guided Pathways 2.0: Declare Your Mission, Choose Your Major.” It will be an article where we ask students to declare how they want to serve others/contribute to the world based on solving problems, then choose their major based on that. Versus picking a major, then students asking what can I do with it?

What do you think? Send me your thoughts at whjohnso@uncg.edu.

  1. Bill, thank you for the YouTube videos. They have been very helpful in trying to remain calm during the first week of the semester. The link to yesterday’s and today’s YouTube videos stated “Video Unavailable”. It might be my computer, just wanted to let you know.

Speaking of YouTube, do you have a YouTube channel? I would love to “see” what you teach and share it with my advisees.

    Take care and keep blogging!

    • Hi Harriet! So great to hear from you!

Yes, I’ve thought about doing YouTube videos, but it’s not on my list of priorities right now. Focused on creating this Office/Center for Transitions and Transformation, since that will dictate my next path of work. If you have a chance, let me know which videos aren’t working and I’ll make sure to fix the links. I went back three days before and three days after and didn’t have any problems with pages on my computer and my IPAD. But as you know, I’m here to serve, so let’s find a way to make it work for you! And I will keep on producing…since there’s always a way to dig deeper!
