Question: Which do you believe is more important: the journey or the destination?
Answer: Now this is the kind of question that resonates with my soul! For me, the journey is so much more important than the destination. There are so many different ways to get to where you needs to go – and I believe that’s where the best learning and growing takes place. When I think back to my life, I’ve always felt that the journey provided both the best and the worst experiences in life – and the destination is what it is. The destination is what it is…something to achieve/accomplish. How I get there is the interesting part. Right now, I know that I want to create an Office of Transition and Transformation, preferably on a college campus or a college system. The steps I take to get there (as I live it right now), has been most challenging and most interesting, especially as I continue to share my idea with more and more people. Will it be at UNCG? Doubtful, but I am open to all possibilities as I find the “next” (not the “best”) place to have this Office/Center. I’m learning that the vision I have to change the way students look at and take control of their lives is much different than most of those I work with in higher administration, especially at UNCG. They don’t get it! And as you see more and more young people feel lost and confused about their future, we’re doing less and less to help them figure it out. And that’s why I was put here on this earth. So, life is a journey that i don’t think ever ends…
