I subscribe to a weekly newsletter by Darius Foroux (https://dariusforoux.com/) because I love his writing style; plus, he posts some really inciteful articles.
Today, I’m going to share two articles that a few of you might find interesting as you navigate life for 2023:
- How to Build the Self-Confidence You Need to Win at Life – https://dariusforoux.com/self-confidence/
- How to Change Careers Even When You Are ‘Super Afraid’ – https://dariusforoux.com/change-careers/
In the article on Self-Confidence, he shares that self-confidence needs to be combined with competence. In other words, you build self-confidence by engaging in activities where you gain competence. Once you become competent, you gain confidence. I love his simple process of becoming more self-confident:
- Improve your competencies
- Put them into practice
- See results
- Grow more confident
- Repeat
He also shares the three areas to gain competence:
- Emotional intelligence (relationships)
- Self-awareness (knowing yourself)
- Problem-solving
Check it out.
The second article addresses Career Change. Again, I find it a great read because it’s a mindset that’s not really taught in school. The bottom line is, “Be the best at what you do.” To be the best at what you do, he recommends following these three principles:
- Focus on your strengths
- Rely on a support system
- Aim for being the best
Simple and powerful. As I shared in my last (December 2022) Training, you either make a commitment to mediocrity or a commitment to greatness. You choose.
And if you don’t understand what it takes to be the best, especially when it comes to a carreer change, check out this quote by Peter Drucker:
“It takes far more energy and work to improve from incompetence to mediocrity than it takes to improve from first-rate performance to excellence.”
I hope you enjoy one or both articles – they definitely made me think more about what I do – and what I need to do!
