start of something new…

I’ve taken a break from writing because I’ve been really contemplating what I want the rest of 2023 to look like – both personally and professionally. And I would argue that a good portion of that contemplation is centered around “work.” When I turned 60 in January this year, I realized that I want to live life on my terms, doing more of the work that I want to do, not work that’s determined by others, especially when it’s not aligned with what I love. To be honest, I have a great boss at Davidson Davie Community College (DDCC); my challenge is that I’m not engaged in my role as the Coordinator of the Legacy-Men of Color Program. It’s hard being at an institution where most of the students drive to campus, go to class, then leave campus – and not interested in spending more time on campus. I also know that I only want to work with students who are motivated to make change, not those just going through the motions.

This past weekend, I started and finished, “The Psychology of Money: Timeless Lesson’s on Wealth, Greed, and Happiness” by Morgan Housel. As I read the book, there was one statement that REALLY resonated with me, a statement that I could get out of my mind all weekend. It came from Chapter Seven titled, “Freedom.” Here’s the statement:

“…you realize that aligning money towards a life that lets you do what you want, when you want, with who you want, where you want, for as long as you want, has incredible return.”

I’ve been pondering this statement all weekend, coming to the realization that I MUST engage in Life Design Catalyst work on my own, where I can do what I want, when I want, with who I want, where I want, for as long as I want. And there’s no better time than the present to get started on this!

No, I just need to make sure that I’m aligning money and life around what I want, when I want, with whom I want, where I want, for as long as I want.” Doesn’t sound very hard, does it?

P.S. If you are living a life that let’s you do what you want, when you want, with who you want, where you want, for as long as you want…please let me know!

  1. Great book! So with this new thought in mind, how will it impact your training that’s in a few weeks?
