Question: If you were to take 10% better care of yourself today, what would you do differently?
Answer: One word: Sleep. I really need to get control of my sleep, since it’s been SO bad the past couple of weeks. I was getting between 6 1/2 hours and 6 3/4 hours of sleep each night; for the past 3 weeks and change, it’s been about 5 hours and 50 minutes – and I’m feeling it each day now. I know that I’ve been obsessed with my car situation, reading and watching reviews of cars – and I thought I narrowed down my option and my place to go, more research is making me have second thoughts – at least about the place. And to make it more difficult, I’m trying to purchase two cars, one for me and one for Rebecca. I think we’re getting the same car, so that makes it both easier and harder. Easier because she was able to test drive our #1 option (Honda CR-V EX), but harder because used car prices are INSANE right now! I actually found a couple of new cars (CR-V Special Edition) that were almost the same price as the used cars. That doesn’t make any sense to me, but that’s just the way it is right now. So we’ll see what happens on Monday when I start shopping. It also didn’t help that I had to come up with slides, handouts, and videos for my presentations at the NACADA Conference. Luckily, that’s done right now; I’m actually writing this post at the Cincinnati airport getting ready to head home. Sleep has always been a problem for me, but never this bad. I’m guessing that my job situation isn’t helping, knowing that they most likely won’t renew my contract at UNCG beyond June 30, 2022. So planning for life after UNCG may also contribute to my lack of sleep. Yes, there’s a lot going on right now, but to be honest, I’m really luck to just be alive, now for the second time. First time was the blood clot in 2016, now the car accident 4 weeks ago. Instead of expecting things to happen for me, I need to reframe and appreciate the fact that I get to type this. This time last week, Rebecca and I just arrived in Georgia to visit Amanda and Bethany – and that was a definite treat. So, blessing after blessing after blessing.
But despite all that, I still need to get some sleep.
