the brave habit

I just finished reading the book, “The Brave Habit: A Guide to Courageous Leadership.” Lots of great information about bravery, including the different between courage (intent) and bravery (action).

But there was one question that he asked that I just can’t get out of my head – so much so that it’s keeping me awake at night (as I write this at 5:45am):

  • Are you building a body of work that represents your values and aspirations – or is it the sum of your compromises?

And if you really want to take it one level deeper, change “body of work” to “life,” where the question then becomes:

  • Are you building a life that represents your values and aspirations – or is it the sum of your compromises?

Either way, both questions provide food for thought for working and living. By the way, my answer to both questions is “yes.” However, I question whether I’m being brave in sharing Life Design Catalyst work with the world – and my answer is “no” – for now. But that’s going to change…

  1. Those are exceptional questions–and I really need to ask myself those questions as I start on the journey toward life after retirement. It is a little “down the road”, but now is the time to start the process.

      • So far, okay–still waiting to get back into my house! Are you still meeting on Monday evenings on Zoom? If you are, I would like to get back to that when I am back in my house.

    • Hi Melanie. I hope that you have been able to get back into your house. I guess Helene did some damage…prayers being sent your way. And yes, it’s never too early to plan for retirement. Sometimes, our plans may change sooner than we think! No longer meeting on Mondays, but would be open for a one-on-one chat.
