your bliss list…

A good friend of mine sent me the following article from Reader’s Digest a couple of days ago, titled “Guided By Bliss” based on the book “The Bliss List” by JP Hansen.  You can read the article at:

The premise is that you can achieve your career (and life) goals by identifying those things that make you happy.  Intrigued, I read the article, then purchased the book.  Right from the beginning, he has readers start off with the creation of a list – Your Bliss List – of the things that make you happiest.

 

The first thing to do is create a list of 15 things that make you happiest – and they don’t have to be work-related.  What are the things that bring you the most joy?  What things are you most grateful to have in your life?  What do you want to be, do, or have in your life?  Just remember to write down the things that make YOU feel happy, not others.  The sky’s the limit!

So, what are the 15 things that make ME happy?  So far, I have the following:

  1. Create “something” that makes an impact of the lives of others on a grand scale (preferably in higher education).
  2. Obtain a paid speaking engagement in a tropical, resort-like place (like Hawaii).
  3. Spend more quality time with my daughters.
  4. Be a more loving, passionate, attentive  husband.
  5. Write/publish a book, most likely in self-help/self-improvement.
  6. Own a home that has enough space for an office/library and workout room, as well as have a screened-in porch on a lake (preferably in the south and near mountains).
  7. Have a million dollars in my retirement account in ten years.
  8. Create a core group of people who meet (in person) on a regular basis to take our lives to higher levels (professionally and/or personally).
  9. Participate in a 10-Day silent meditation/mindfulness retreat.
  10. Help at least one new person a week to find their path and change their life for the better.
