During my workout this morning, I have a great song on my playlist. For some reason, it resonated with me more today than most days – maybe it’s because I feel it’s time for me to find things to stretch myself and step out of my comfort zone.
I think it’s a sign, since I listed to Brian Johnson’s +1 note/video yesterday titled, Win or Learn: Three Questions to Ask after a Disappointing Performance (https://www.optimize.me/plus-one/win-or-learn/ – must be a member of optimize.me to watch). The three questions are:
- What did I do well?
- What did I learn?
- How will I get better?
Try it in your own life and see if it works.
So, here’s the song:
“Jason Gray: Learning” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGWi6KynB8s
And here are the lyrics:
I know that fear is a liar
A thief breaking into my heart
He tries to steal all my fire
And shut me down before I even start, yeah
I know I can take it everyday
If there’s a way you will make it
I won’t be afraid
‘Cause I’ll be like
Hey yeah
Whatever comes my way
I’m not turning back
Hey yeah
I know your love won’t leave
So I won’t worry ’cause
If I fall I win every time I get up again
Hey yeah
‘Cause I can’t lose, if I keep learning
I’m learning, learning (yeah)
I’m learning, learning
Let them shout from the bleachers
Every time I don’t get it right (ooh yeah)
I know my failure is my teacher
And I’m still here in the fight (yeah)
I know I can take it everyday
If there’s a way you will make it
I won’t be afraid
‘Cause I’ll be like
Hey yeah
Whatever comes my way
I’m not turning back
Hey yeah
I know your love won’t leave
So I won’t worry ’cause
If I fall I win every time I get up again
Hey yeah
‘Cause I can’t lose, if I keep learning
I’m learning, learning (yeah)
I’m learning, learning
I know I can take it everyday
If there’s a way you will make it
I won’t be afraid
I know I can take it everyday
If there’s a way you will make it
I won’t be afraid
Hey yeah
Whatever comes my way
I’m not turning back
Hey yeah
I know your love won’t leave
So I won’t worry ’cause
If I fall I win every time I get up again
Hey yeah
‘Cause I can’t lose, if I keep learning
I’m learning, learning (yeah)
I’m learning, learning (learning)
I know I can take it everyday
If there’s a way you will make it
I won’t be afraid (I’m always learning, yeah)
So, don’t think win or lose or don’t think failure, think WIN or LEARN! Much better frame, don’t you think?
Something that I’ve made a practice when ever I feel stuck in any situation is asking myself, “What is this experience supposed to be teaching me?” When I take a step back, and ask myself this, I typically find what I need to keep pressing on…
Great question to ask to keep pressing on. Thanks for sharing!
