Meditation: Lullaby for Grown Ups (Liquid Mind) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hyqss5-_AFM
Question: How do you think other people would describe you if asked?
Answer: I bet those who took the time to know me would say that I’m kind, generous, authentic, transparent, quirky, misunderstood, and obsessive. I believe that I’m one of those people that you either really like or really hate, especially at work. There are people who love the fact that I call people out because of dumb shit they do or goofy decisions they make – and that makes them really uncomfortable. But the people that I call out for doing dumb stuff aren’t happy with me, don’t consider me a team player, and see me in a different light. I’ve had people on my campus call me a bully, spread lies about me, and even had an individual state that the only reason I have my job is because I’m black. I would be shocked by that last comment, except that I’ve had that comment told to me at EVERY school I’ve worked at. So it’s not a surprise any more. It’s funny…I tend to describe myself as a more tame version of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory. He’s REALLY OCD and quirky; I’m mildly OCD, but definitely quirky. It would be interesting to hear from those that are reading this to share their thoughts – both good and bad. It’s been an evolution, but I’m okay with who I have become and appreciate the fact that I’m alive and still get to share my life with others. I know that if I died tomorrow, I believe that I have made a small impact on the lives of others – and that brings a smile to my face.
I thought this was going to be a tough question for me to answer, but it was actually very easy to answer. I know a few so far have been REALLY hard, so I’m appreciating the time to answer a few easy ones.
Other Stuff
For my “What Could I Do With My Life” course this semester, it’s completely online and asynchronous this semester. And every semester for the past 7 years, we’ve always started the first few weeks with some type of story-telling activity. This semester, however, I think I’m going to focus on something different. The goal of the course is to have students think about how they can use their gifts to profoundly serve others. I For this semester, the opening video is going to focus on doing good, serving profoundly, and making an impact. Here’s the video I’m sharing for the first day:
- Make An Impact – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb7_YJp9bVA
As we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, take a moment to think about your impact on the world – or how you will make an impact on the world.
Hmmm…
Loud, vibrant, unassuming & humble, thought provoking, thoughtfully disruptive, inspiring, reassuring, and incredibly helpful.
But I also loved & agreed with kind & obsessive.
And you’re definitely authentic & genuine.
Lastly, I mean “loud” in not just the audible way – but also the way that you show up in life. You’re excited, passionate & present.
