Question: How do you express feelings like anger and hurt?
Answer: Typically, when I am angry or hurt, I will go silent. I will typically hold it inside myself until it either dissipates/goes away or it comes out in some sort of tirade, which rarely happens. I actually don’t get angry or hurt very often, since I don’t travel far between the highs and the lows in life. I much prefer to stay somewhere in the middle, where I live in a very contented world. And if I am angry, I will try to fuel that rage into something positive, which is what I’m doing right now regarding my current position at UNCG. I find it ironic that not a single person on the administrative team has asked my opinion about how we should do student services and/or address student success, especially since I’ve been in two positions charged with those things in the past and I am one of the more intrapreneurial minds in student support services on campus. But that’s what happens when you’re dealing with academics – they believe their PHD degrees make them smart. Well, I have my own philosophy on what credentials mean in higher ed…and it’s not pretty. Anyway, let the games begin.
