Question: What is the number one thing that, if you started doing today, would have the biggest positive impact on your life?

Answer: That’s an interesting and most challenging question to pose as the first question of the month. So, this question gave me incentive to take my “Transformation Triad” Self- Assessment, where I get to evaluate my life in three different areas: (1) Energy/Vitality, (2) Connection/Family, and (3) Contribution/Service. Taking the self-assessment reveals that areas that “Needs Work” are Energy/Vitality AND Connection/Family. Not that either are bad scores, but there’s definitely work that needs to be done in both areas. When I look at the areas that I I feel could lead to the biggest positive impact, it would be sleep. 7-8 hours a night would be awesome! According to my Garmin, I may get 7 or more hours maybe once or twice every couple of weeks – and yes, that includes weekends, when I get up early on Sunday morning to do long (30+) mile bike rides. For example, last night I went to bed early with the intention of getting at least 7 hours, a quite possibly 7.5 hours? What happened? I got up at 3:00am and couldn’t get back to sleep. So, I went to bed with good intentions, but didn’t get the job done. I am functioning pretty well, but I know I can do better; good sleep would do the trick. For Connection/Family, I have to decide where to put my energy – into building my relationship with Rebecca or building my relationship with my friends/Life Design Catalyst Tribe. I don’t think there’s much I can do right now about my relationship with Rebecca; we are seeing a therapist, so we’ll see where that goes. But I can easily build my friendship with the Tribe, so that’s what I think I will do for this challenge this month. Connect with a different member at least three times a week – and that way, I can connect with 12-15 people I haven’t had a chance to connect with in a while. That sounds like a great plan to me!

I read another interesting article yesterday, especially as today’s post addresses change. First, here’s the article:

It’s interesting because it states that hobbies can actually add to a person’s recovery from work and increase performance -related outcomes.

The premise – do more of the stuff you like to be better at work! Duh!

P.S. One of the things that I love to do that I’ve stopped doing is reading…so I started my “project” a day early and read 2 chapters in a book after work. My goal is to continue that habit every day for a month.
