Relaxing Music for the week: The Wisdom of Kindness: Liquid Mind (10:34) –

Question: Describe a recent good deed or random act of kindness you undertook.

Answer: Funny, a look at good deeds and random acts of kindness as a way to profoundly serve others, regardless of whether it’s something big or small. Every day, I try to do something that could possibly help someone else have a better day, whether it’s sending a note, going for a walk, or just having a random conversation. All I can do is the deed; how the other person responds to the deed is up to them. I’m not looking for any feedback…it’s just good to do the deed. Funny, in our “Redesign a Life You’ll Love” course, we’ve had students engage in various practices that have been found to improve happiness. The video, “The Happy Secret to Better Work” by Shawn Anchor, was my inspiration; you can watch it here:

If you watch the video, he recommends five practices that could lead to happiness at work, which are:

  • 3 Gratitudes
  • Journaling
  • Exercise
  • Meditation
  • Random Acts of Kindness

It was fun to have the students engage in those activities, since many aren’t engaged in any of the practices. I engage in 3 of the practices on a daily basis (journaling, exercise, and meditation) and integrate the other two (3 Gratitudes and Random Acts of Kindness) when I can.
