It’s been a while since I last posted! I guess I haven’t had the motivation to post – until now.
I have now been “retired” from work for one month now (I started on July 1st) – and enjoying retired life immensely! This is what I’ve learned so far:
- I’m enjoying workout times that start an hour later (now between 5:45-6:00am vs 4:45-5:00am).
- I’ve been able to connect and play golf with two of my retired neighbors.
- It’s nice to take on projects on my schedule, without having to fit it around a “work” schedule.
- I’ve been able to read about two books a week.
- I’ve watched more videos on retirement than most people would want to watch, especially those pertaining to the question, “when you should take social security?” (Answer: it depends).
- I get to play more sports during the day (golf, tennis, bowling, and pickleball), instead of just the weekends.
I can say that our dog Laci LOVES me being around! It’s not like we’re doing a ton of stuff together (3-4 walks a day now); I think she just likes the company – and getting her belly rubbed at various break times during the day.
Although I seem to be just as busy when I worked full-time, it’s more about doing work that interests me on MY time! Instead of being on a time clock, I’m living on Bill’s clock, which means that I work best in the mornings after I work out and in the evenings after dinner. What’s really nice is that I’ve been able to set up a routine that works for me, for Laci, for my wife Rebecca, and with my LDC Community.
Now that August is right around the corner, I need to focus on two things: (1) a new Life Design Catalyst Project I’d like to implement (more on that in another post), and (2) training for the North Carolina Senior Games, since I’m planning to compete in tennis and bowling.
Here’s to retirement life!
Congrats to you!
Thank you. It’s been a learning process, for sure! I’m glad I had an idea/plan what I wanted to do, how I wanted to do it, and how much I needed to make in order to see it through. Now, it’s time to take action and implement!
Glad to hear that you’re enjoying your retirement and taking time to have fun!
Thanks. Yes, I am enjoying retirement. It’s nice to have the opportunity to do things I REALLY want to do!
