I played in a tennis match last Thursday night; in the beginning of the second set, I had an uncontrollable coughing fit, where I had to take about two minutes to try to catch my breath. And in that moment, I thought about one of the guys that I played with last year (Jack) who died on the tennis court, playing the game he loved.
The following day, while I was scrolling through songs to put on my playlist, this song came up. Not only did this song make me cry, but the replies that people shared with regards to this song struck a cord in my heart. And after the previous night’s episode, it make me think: if I was to pass away too soon, I want my dear wife Rebecca to remember me through this song:
Knowing You
by Kenny Chesney (watch video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkrTvtIxUaA)
Knowin’ you, you probably got your toes in the sand
At a bar on a beach in the sun somewhere
Knowin’ you, you got something cold in your hand
Chattin’ up a stranger without a care
Knowin’ you, you’re still wild and free
And knowin’ you, you’re probably way over me
But God, we were so alive
I was a kid on a carnival ride
Holdin’ my breath ’til the moment
When you were gonna leave me too soon
But I’d do it all over
‘Cause damn, it was good knowin’ you
Knowin’ you was a free fall from a hundred thousand feet
When you don’t even care where you land
And knowin’ you was the kind of rush that you feel
When you finally get to sit in with the band
And knowin’ you, you’re still a tumbleweed
I only wish that you would tumble back to me
But God, we were so alive
I was a kid on a carnival ride
Holdin’ my breath ’til the moment
When you were gonna leave me too soon
But I’d do it all over
‘Cause damn, it was good knowin’ you
Knowin’ you, you’re still a tumbleweed
I only wish that you would tumble back to me
‘Cause God, we were so alive
I was a kid on a carnival ride
Holdin’ my breath ’til the moment
When you were gonna leave me too soon
But I’d do it all over
‘Cause damn, it was good
I’d do it all over
‘Cause damn, it was good knowin’ you.
When I shared this Rebecca, she also cried. And she also said that she wanted me to think of her this way if she passed before me. It’s good knowing you, dear friends.
Knowing you and several other LDC friends has been life changing.
And the same goes for you, Melanie. It’s been a joy knowing you, my friend.
You continue to live life fully and authentically. I’m humbled and thankful that you share your joys and challenges…ideas and insights…laughter and tears with all of us on so many levels.
Hugs for you and Rebecca!!!!!!
Thanks for your kind and gracious words, Pam. It’s a joy to be able to share the trials and tribulations of this journey with others. I look forward to connecting soon, my dear friend. Hugs to you as well!
