Question: What stories do you think the walls in your current home would tell?

Answer: Now that’s an interesting question. Since I spend most of my days home alone with our dog Laci, I bet she would have some interesting stories to tell as well. To be honest, aren’t many stories to tell, since I’m like an open book. However, one of the things that I’ve noticed more now that I’m working from home is how I miss connection, especially with my friend and colleague Megan. Although I have been able to create lots of tools to use for our courses and/or training recently, she was always my sounding board on any new idea. We could spend hours talking about a new idea, a new tool, or just talking about how we could help our students take their lives to another level. Although it’s easy to do online, there’s something about being in person that takes things to a different level. A colleague sent the following article, “Your ‘Surge Capacity’ Is Depleted — It’s Why You Feel Awful: Here’s how to pull yourself out of despair and live your life” – https://elemental.medium.com/your-surge-capacity-is-depleted-it-s-why-you-feel-awful-de285d542f4c; it helped me be okay that not every day is going to be a joy, where I can get lots and lots of things done, where I’m motivated to do lots of work. Just like life, it ebbs and flows, some days are good, some days not so good. And instead of beating myself over it, just deal with it and move on. The two points in the article that stand out most for me are: (1) Accept that life is different now, and (2) Expect less from yourself. Definitely helpful.

So, if you have time, check out the article; you might find it helpful as we adjust to our new normal, whatever that may be.
