Question: What does family mean to you?
Answer: So, instead of defining family what it means to be in a family, I will describe what family means to me. And for those following along from the book, this is the June 3rd entry, which I skipped. So I decided to answer it today.
I look those in my immediate family as my daughters Amanda and Bethany, my wife Rebecca, and our dog Laci. Then you have the extended part of the family, such as my relatives. Then there’s my Life Design Catalyst Tribe which includes many of the people I’ve shared in these posts. The people in these two circles of my family are not “yes” people; they provide support and encouragement, but they aren’t afraid to call me out when I do something harmful to another or to the world. They will let me know if I say something that hurts another individual. I value this part of my family because I’m so scattered and all over the place I need their help to keep me focused. Of course, my daughters are THE BOMB; they are definitely the light of my life. Rebecca is a great person; I sometimes believe that we’re just on two different planets. We have different needs and different values since we first met – and are currently finding a way to meet somewhere in the middle. We’ll see how that goes. As far as a work family…have had them in the past; unfortunately, due to job changes and retirements, the only person I would say is part of my “true” work family is Megan – and we won’t be able to spend as much time together (compared to pre-COVID) because she had a baby about 6 or 7 months ago, and she’ll be spending more time at home.
As I write this, I would define family as the people in your life that will love you unconditionally, support you through good and bad, and will call you out when you’re doing wrong. I have a lot of those people in my life and for that, I’m eternally grateful.
I’m going to end this now because I have a lot to do before I leave for my Training tomorrow morning at 7am. Have a peaceful day, dear friends.
