Question: What feels unresolved in your financial life right now? What can you do to resolve this?
Answer: What feels unresolved in my financial life right now? There are a few things that I could identify, but only one or two that I would be willing to share. First, I would love to have more money deposited in our emergency account. Although we have enough to cover most things, I would love to make sure we have enough to cover if Rebecca and I both lost our jobs for 3 months. We’re short of that right now, but I’m hoping that it’s something we can work on. Second, I want to work with Kelly (our financial advisor) to do something with Rebecca’s retirement account through the school system. It’s just sitting in an account making about 0.5% each year, which is less than what you’d get in a savings account. So, she needs to be in something that’s earning 8-10% a year. Other than that, I think we’re good. I will started trading in my golf clubs so I can start building up credit in case I ever decide to purchase new clubs. It’s time to use money to create experiences, not to get more “stuff.” One of the things I plan to do is to take ANY income that i somehow generate on my own and deposit into our emergency fund account – that will help grow it.
Other Stuff
I read an interesting article yesterday afternoon that ties into our work on “knowing yourself” and why it’s important.
- What It Means To Have A Strong Sense Of Self & How To Develop Yours – https://www.mindbodygreen.com/articles/how-to-develop-your-sense-of-self
After reading the article, imagine taking a course where 1/2 of the semester is geared towards you identifying and creating a stronger sense of self, as you decide how you want to serve/contribute to the world. Welcome to our course, “What Could I Do With My Life?,” a course where students connect their sense of self to do meaningful work and solve society problems through educational, experiential, employable, and entrepreneurial endeavors. Doesn’t it sound like something YOU’D like to take?
