I was reading Monday’s Wise and Wealthy email newsletter from Darius Foroux this morning. The Wise section was titled, “Caring About What You Do,” which you can find here: https://dariusforoux.com/ai-on-side-business-caring-money-making/. After reading this short passage, I decided to go a little further and read his blog post:

You’ll find the nugget in this article. He asks the question, “Do you care enough about your job?” Then, follows it up with these:
- Do you care about being the best in the world?
- Or putting in the hours to improve your craft?
- Are the rewards of your work worth all the sacrifices you made?
My answers? Yes. Yes. And Yes. And then here shares this:
“Because if the answer is not a resounding “YES!” then it’s time to reconsider what you’re doing. “But winners never quit, right?” Not exactly. Successful people do quit. The difference between a successful and a not-successful person is this: The former knows how to quit the wrong things. And they quit it at just the right time. “Wrong things” means jobs and careers you don’t truly care about. If you’re only working a job to pay the bills, that’s understandable as long as it’s temporary. Eventually, you’ll need to put some serious thought into your career. You don’t want to spend all your life chasing after bills, do you?”
This past weekend, Rebecca and I decided to take a long weekend at Carolina Beach. I’m not a beach person, but I was more than happy to share this experience with my wonderful wife because she LOVES the beach. We had a wonderful time there, just connecting at a deeper level by spending quality time together. While there, I thought long and hard about the “work” that I’m doing. And after chatting with my dear friends Carrie and Demetria earlier this morning, I realized that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE watching members of the LDC Tribe grow their work, knowing that LDC work is making a difference in what they’re creating moving forward. Just being a part of that is what brings me joy…not more money, not more prestige, not getting more likes. Just watching them grow, knowing that I had something to do with it – is my true joy.
I share that because I’m tackling the question, “What do I want to be the best at?” The more I learn, the more I create, the more I share…the more I start to realize how I want to be the best Life Design Catalyst Leader that I can be for everyone I serve – which includes being a husband, a father, a friend, a colleague, a teacher, and a leader.
And that sums up how I will continue to be the best – profoundly serve others using LDC work.

Excellent post! I truly appreciate the reminder about knowing the why behind the what. Chasing bills may be a beginning motivation, but hopefully it won’t be the end for those who intend to live in purpose. Once we know our why, we need to root ourselves in it regardless of the sneers and the whys behind others’ passions. That leads to a peace that the world can’t give nor take away!

Glad you and Rebecca were able to get away. As a SFLA resident, I have a great appreciation of the beach and will miss it when I leave the area. Anyway, I wanted to bring to your attention to a podcast show called Hidden Brain. They did an episode called “Who do you want to be?” and they talked about the same ideas and concepts as you do with your LDC work. I would love for you to listen to it and then hear your opinion.
