self-esteem vs confidence

I’m guilty.  I’ve always thought that self-esteem and confidence were pretty much the same thing.  This morning, I read this article and realize how much they are NOT the same.  Here’s how the author defines the two:

“Confidence is a feeling of self-assurance that arises from the appreciation of one’s abilities or qualities, while self-esteem is confidence in one’s own inherent worth or value.”

As I read the article, I realized that on those occasions I feel down and/or sad about myself, it’s usually arises from issues around self-esteem, not confidence.

If you want clarity on the difference between the two, here’s a great article that you should check out; in addition, the author shares three suggestions to increase one’s self-esteem.  Check it out here:

Good reading for a Saturday morning!
