Question: What annoys you about other people? How does that trait or behavior show up in your personality and your life?
Answer: People who treat you kindly in your face but stab are ready to stab you in the back when you’re not in the room. And I’ve made sure to minimize the amount of gossip that spreads, as well as be as honest and transparent as possible. Another things that annoys me is punctuality, more specifically, if there’s a time to leave or meet, be there at that time or possibly earlier. I used to be really cavalier about showing up to things on time…much, much better about it now.
Other Stuff
One of the things I decided to do this year was reduce the amount of emails coming to my Inbox. On a given day, I was receiving between 75 and 100 emails EVERY DAY, due mostly to subscriptions to various blogs, lists, etc. And I continue to eliminate subscriptions, even today (dropped two more). However, I will say that I did keep a few – about 7 to 10 – that are inspirational. Holstee (https://www.holstee.com/) is one because they will send articles with food for thought. On Monday, they shared a post (click on this link to the article, “What would you stop doing?” – https://www.holstee.com/blogs/mindful-matter/what-would-you-stop-doing) that was one that made me think; here’s the question they asked:
- “If you woke up tomorrow morning and you discovered you had only 10 years to live, what would you stop doing?”
I thought about it…but then I reframed the question, “If I woke up tomorrow morning and discovered that I only had ONE year left to live, what would I stop doing now?” Talk about an eye-opening reflection! It’s easy to know what I would want to do (i.e. spend more time with my daughters in-person, spend more time with the LDC Tribe in-person and online, be more open to sharing my work with the world), but to think what I would STOP doing is a lot harder. So, here’s my answer:
- I would stop allowing my “suffering” states to take over my mind and my life.
What about you? If you only had one year left to live, what would you stop doing?
Now, that you’ve identified what you need to stop doing, what do you NEED to do RIGHT NOW to stop doing it? And that’s the key, my friends.
