Question: What is one thing you can change in your environment today to make it more pleasing to you?

Answer: I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of answering questions about my environment. They aren’t very probing and doesn’t do much to get me excited about writing. But, I’m sticking with the process because it’s something that I said I would do – and one of my most important tenets is that “you do what you say you will do.”

If I could change one thing to make my environment more pleasing, it would be to combine a library with an office at our house, a library that could hold ALL of the books that I own. We purchased six five-shelves book cases for our upstairs bedroom and it’s still not close to holding all of the books that I own. We probably need at least 3 more shelves to accommodate all of the books that I have laying on the floor upstairs as well as the books in the downstairs second bedroom. And considering that I’ve drastically decreased the number of book purchases (maybe one a month now), there still isn’t enough room. And since a lot of my work involves creating new tools and identifying new resources to help students (and others) create their best lives, it would be much easier to have everything in one place. Of course, you could also say that it’s better to be separated because I can get more steps in by having them separate, since I have the ambitious goal of 5.5 million steps this year. Anyway, that would be one change that I believe would make a more pleasing environment.

Other Stuff

Today is the start of my journey to become a tennis player again. I decided to join a team this year and commit to becoming better at tennis AND golf. Hard, but it’s something that I want to do this year. As someone who is self-motivated and disciplined, I asked myself how important it is for me to play better in both areas, since I’d like to break 80 in golf and win a tennis tournament after 50 years old. I started to think about my level of interests in achieving both goals and thought back to this article that I consider a must read. Here’s the article:

Hint – The two questions are: (1) Do you want to do better?” and (2) Are you willing to feel the discomfort of putting in more effort and trying new things that will feel weird and different and won’t work right away?” For additional insight, read the article.
